Hi!

Started using DesktopX today. For some reason I get this error with the "Universe Metal" skins. First I thought it was the program itself but it worked fine with other themes.

"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library"
"Program:C:\DesktopX\Desktopx.exe"
"abnormal program termination"

I guess lot's of people are using the "Universe Metal" skins. Can someone help me? Is there some of the skins that can cause problems? Are there things that I should now before adding skins?

Got one more question: How do I disable the Windows taskbar?

Thanks!

/Gus

Is it one of my objects ? Or do You refer to the theme ? Often problems are caused by plugins, that can be bound to an object. You should test everything with objects that don't contain clocks, meters or players first. If You have no trouble with them, it will obiously be a plugin causing the problems.

As for the taskbar : DesktopX configuration -> Theme Settings -> Desktop -> Check 'Hide explorer taskbar'

Hmm, another idea (because I just saw 'after a while' in the topic): Maybe the mail-plugin is the problem, when it first checks an account which is not configured ? Anyone of the programmers here ?

Thanks for your answers and some great skins for DesktopX!
I did a fresh install of DestopX and loaded skins one by one. First a couple of objects, waited 20 min, then some more and then waited 20 mor minutes.

All I got so far without errors:

UMBonus01.dxpack
UMBonus02.dxpack
UMEssentials.dxpack
UMGraphics.dxpack
UMMmedia.dxpack
UMOffice.dxpack
UMTaskBar.dxpack
UMWeb.dxpack

I still got these to load:
UmClock.dxpack
UMDrives1.dxpack
UMDrives2.dxpack
UMDXPlayer2.dxpack
UMDXPlayer.dxpack
UMTrayBot.dxpack
UMTrayTop.dxpack

So I guess it has something to do with that sweet sweet clock with the "driverbars". Is there another clock for UM ?

Can you explain that about the "mail" again?

Thanks!

The next DX theme I am doing will be without plugins because of these problems. There is a Universe Metal skin by me in the Sysmetrix section here, giving You the same functionality. And it is stable... Objects, that can cause this problems are :

UmClock.dxpack
UMDXPlayer2.dxpack
UMDXPlayer.dxpack

But I guess, the problem are the performance-meters within the clock...

Mail : There is a plugin within the clock object, that can check Your mail on a regular basis, but forget about that.

Also nice to know : What Operating System are You on ?

So do you think it the clock or the moving bars for cpu and drives that are causing the problem?

There are two clocks, the one with clock n' trashcan and the one with Clock, drives, and bars. Is it possible that #1 might work?

Another thing. Sometimes it says (ID=123456) is already used by other objects. Be sure to change and so on.
How do i change the ID?

And last. To I need to buy the program for SysMatrix to be able to use it?

I use Windows 2000.
P4 1.4
256 mb ddr ram
Gforce 2 GTS
and so on.

Ok, got the SysMatrix skin installed and it looks great man!

Have you made a Universe Metal skin for an MP3 player?

I also have problems with various UniverseMetal DX packs And conflicting ID numbers. I have tried changing the ID numbers but no luck

a) I will try to rework them. I think the problem is, that I never had them on my screen all at once,
so double ID's could be a result of that.

@Gus : #1 should work, it is using a 'built-in' plugin.

c) The whole Universe Metal suite (and the original graphics, that I modified) is not by me,
but by the great folks over at Pixtudio. http://www.pixtudio.com

As You have noticed : Sysmetrix is freeware.

Super, I added all the stuff I wanted, pretty much all the Universe Metal stuff that I could find. The system has been up 8 h without errors.

Are you planning on making more icons "boxes"? Skins for games and so on?

Umh, no. Nothing new from me for Universe Metal. I moved on to another port (a full theme this time) of Copper Deck II.

Ok, you don't happen to have a template so that users can make thier own custom "buttons"?

The problem is, that the original Universe Metal graphics aren't my creations. So I can't give away a template.
